Ahora mismo deberíamos estar montados en el Talgo dirección Madrid. Una vez allí, nos alojaríamos en un hotel cercano al aeropuerto, y nos iríamos a dormir muy pronto, pues mañana deberíamos estar sobre las 4 de la mañana en la terminal para facturar.
Right now we should be on a train to Madrid. Once there, we'd stay in a hotel close to the airport and we'd go to bed really early, as tomorrow we should be at 4 am to check our luggage.
Y a las 6 de la mañana, a volar, primero hasta Amsterdam, y desde allí a nuestro querido Houston. Porque siempre dijimos que volveríamos, y tenemos el defecto de cumplir normalmente lo que decimos. Tenemos muchas ganas de ver a amigos y compañeros que están allí, españoles, norteamericanos, mexicanos, puertorriqueños, venezolanos, ecuatorianos, colombianos, etc.
And at 6 am, let's fly! First, destination Amsterdam, and from there, to our beloved Houston. Because we always said we'd be back, one of our drawbacks is that we normally do what we say. We were really looking forward to seeing all our friends and colleagues that live there, Spanish, American, Mexican, Puertorrican, Venezuelan, Ecuadorian, Colombian friends...

A Rockets game, a visit to our school where everybody should be back working after their Spring break, we also wanted to cross out some new places from our list, re-visit our favourite ones... hundreds of plans.
Pero se jodió la cosa. Desde hace ya un par de meses se decía, se comentaba, que un virus chino estaba haciendo estragos, que se iba a propagar rápidamente por todo el mundo, pero claro, uno no quiere creer que esas cosas tan lejanas van a acabar por afectarle.
But everything fucked up. Two months ago we started listening on the news that a Chinese virus was ravaging, that it was going to spread quite fast around the world, but, you know, we didn't want to think that such remote news would end up affecting our trip.
Pero conforme se acercaba nuestro viaje nos íbamos temiendo que así sería, que nos iba a afectar, y así ha sido. Y aquí estamos, en casa, confinados, como la mayoría de los españoles, y casi medio mundo. Ya llevamos así tres semanas, y las que nos quedan, porque a pesar de que los números son esperanzadores, erradicar por completo el problema llevará tiempo.
As our departing date approached we started to worry that it would affect us, and so was it. And here we are, at home, confined, as most of the Spaniards, and half the world's population. It's been three weeks so far, and it hasn't finished yet, because although the optimistic case numbers, it will take time to erradicate this pandemic.
El principio del confinamiento no está mal del todo, tienes tiempo para hacer muchas cosas, limpiezas a fondo, cambio de armarios, organización de la casa, etc. Y televisión, mucha televisión. Y menos mal que estamos en la era del Netflix y otras plataformas, porque estar tanto tiempo en casa escuchando las noticias podría conducir a la locura al mayor de los cuerdos. Hay tiempo para dedicar a aquello que habías estado dejando para otro momento quizás desde hace ya algún que otro mes o año. Como escribir en este blog.
The beginning of the confinement isn't so bad, you have time to do lots of stuff, deep cleanings, change wardrobes, home organization, and so on. And TV, lots of TV. Thank God we are in the Netflix era, because spending such an amount of time at home listening to dreadful news could drive the sanest person crazy. You can devote time to activities you've been putting off for months or even years. Like writing a post on this blog.
Pero el estar confinados lo hacemos por obligación y a la vez por voluntad propia, por nuestro bien y a la vez por el bien de otros. Y todo va a salir bien, y volveremos a viajar, y volveremos a escribir sobre nuestros viajes. Y volveremos a un partido de los Rockets, y al colegio, y a ver a todo el mundo. Volveremos, y volveremos más fuertes, porque como se suele decir, lo que no te mata te hace más fuerte. Y no nos va a matar. Pues eso. Nos vemos pronto.
We are confined because we are forced to do so, and because it is also our will. We do it for our own good, and for the others'. And everything's gonna be OK, and we'll travel again, and we'll write about our trips again. We'll be to a Rockets game, and to school, and we'll get to see everybody. We'll be back, and we'll be stronger. As the song says, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger, and this is not going to kill us. That's it. See y'all soon.
