Un país "a lo grande" / A "big" nation

¡Hola a todos! En primer lugar, daros las gracias a todos por la gran cantidad de visitas a la primera entrada del blog. Eso me ayudará a seguir escribiendo con frecuencia.

Ya ha pasado una semana desde nuestra llegada a Estados Unidos. Como ya dije en la anterior entrada, un viaje larguísimo y muy cansado (más de lo esperado). Las escalas en los aeropuertos, la duración de los vuelos, la entrada en el país a través de inmigración, y para terminar, un servidor tiene más de una hora extra de retención por el hecho de llamarme como me llamo. Ya me avisaron que me pasará cada vez que entre en el país. Tras todo esto, normal que durmiera 18 horas seguidas, algo que no había hecho en mi vida.

En esta semana no hemos parado de hacer gestiones imprescindibles para que todo esté en regla y poder llevar una vida normal. Y lo primero de todo fue conseguir un número de teléfono con conexión a internet, imprescindible ya que el GPS se hace totalmente necesario para moverte. Después tocó abrir una cuenta bancaria para poder asegurar y recoger el coche y luego hacer el cambio de titular. Una vez que tienes coche, ya eres una persona normal aquí, sin coche estás perdido.

Lo siguiente en la lista, muy importante, buscar casa. Parece fácil, pero no lo es. Porque queríamos vivir en Katy, una zona tranquila, con complejos de apartamentos, a medio camino entre el centro de Houston y el colegio. Hay bastantes complejos, pero no demasiados apartamentos que se adapten a nuestras necesidades. Tras visitar 6 ó 7 sitios, nos decidimos por Marquis at the Reserve. He titulado esta entrada como "Un país 'a lo grande'" porque de lo primero que te das cuenta al estar aquí unos días es que aquí todo es más grande. Los coches son más grandes, las carreteras son más grandes, los tamaños de las comidas son más grandes, las casas son más grandes, las banderas son más grandes, y la gente, madre mía, la gente es "muy grande".

Hi everyone! First of all, I'd like to thank you all for the huge amount of visits on the blog. That will help me keep posting more often.

It's been a week since we got to the USA. As I mentioned in the previous post, a really long and tiring journey (more than expected). Transfers at the airports, the length of the flights, entering through customs and, to finish, just for me, over an hour held at the U.S. Border Office because my name is what it is. They warned me that it will happen every time I enter the country. After all this, I slept 18 hours in a row, something I had never done before.

This week we haven't stopped running some errands needed to have everything in order and to have a normal life. And first of all was to get an American phone number with an Internet connection, which is essential because we need the GPS to get around the area. After that, we took out an insurance and picked up our car and, later, changed its registration. Once you have a car, you are a normal person here, without it you're lost.

Next on the list, really important, looking for an apartment. It may seem easy, but it isn't. We wanted to live in Katy, a calm area, with apartment condominium, located between Houston and the school I'm going to work. There are lots of "condos", but not a lot apartments fitting our needs. After visiting 6 or 7 we chose Marquis at the Reserve. The link will show you how it is.

I have entitled this post "A 'big' nation" because the first thing you realize when you're here for a couple of days is that here everything is bigger than in Spain. Cars are bigger, roads are bigger, food portions are bigger, houses are bigger, flags are bigger, and people, oh my God, people are really really big here.
