Old Town Spring / Houston Downtown / Kemah

¡Madre mía cómo pasa el tiempo! Parece que fue ayer mismo, y resulta que hace casi un mes que estoy sin escribir en el blog. La verdad es que entre tanta formación, haber empezado ya con las clases, y no parar de ver cosas en el poco tiempo libre que queda, la tarea de escribir aquí se va dejando y pasan estas cosas. Por otro lado, ahora tengo un montón de sitios nuevos que enseñaros. ¡Empezamos!

Oh my god! Time flies! It seems like yesterday, but it's been almost a month since the last time I posted on the blog. It's true that with all the trainings, having already started with the kids, and not stopping visiting new places in the free time I have, the task of typing is always postponed. On the other hand, now I have a lot of new places to show you! Let's get started!

HOUSTON DOWNTOWN

Es el centro financiero de la ciudad, y en él encontramos los rascacielos que marcan el skyline de Houston. Con tanta actividad de oficinas, y tan mala comunicación de transporte público, aparte de edificios de trabajo, también está lleno de edificios de aparcamientos para coches. Afortunadamente, no solo tiene edificios, también encontramos multitud de parques y jardines.

It is the financial centre of the city, and there we find the skyscrapers that design the Houston skyline. With so many offices, and such a bad public transport network, apart from workplaces, it is also full of multistorey car parks. Fortunately, not only can you find buildings, but so many parks and gardens.

Cualquier rincón de la ciudad es bueno para plantar una obra de arte, no importa si está hecha con Lego, si es un músico, o si ha sido diseñada por el mismo Joan Miró.

Any corner of the city is great to set up a work of art, it doesn't matter whether it is made of Lego, it is a musician, or it's been done by Joan Miró.

Esta es una una casa del siglo XIX, que ha sido trasladada a uno de los parques del centro de la ciudad.

This is a 19th-century house that has been moved to one of the gardens in the Downtown.

Al otro lado del Downtown se encuentran dos grandes estadios, el Minute Maid, donde juega el equipode béisbol de los Houston Astros, y el Toyota Center, casa de los Houston Rockets de baloncesto. Aunque el béisbol no es lo mío, no descarto asistir a algún partido. Algo que si que haré en el caso del baloncesto, la NBA. ¡La liga regular empieza en octubre!

On the other side of the Downtown, there are two big sport stadiums, the Minute Maid Stadium, home of the Houston Astros baseball team, and the Toyota Center, home of the Houston Rockets basketball team. Although baseball is not my cup of tea, may be I'm going there for a game. And I will do it for sure in the case of the NBA team. The regular season starts in October!

Hay una gran cantidad de eventos en el Downtown. En las siguientes fotos estábamos pasando una estupenda velada en el Houston Food Festival, con otros amigos y profesores visitantes.

There are lots of events in the city Downtown. In the next pictures, we were spending a great evening in the Houston Food Festival, with some other friends and teachers.

OLD TOWN SPRING

Es un pequeño pueblo al norte de Houston, nacido y desarrollado a la orilla del ferrocarril. En sus inicios, muchos de sus ciudadanos fueron, como es bastante común por esta zona, emigrantes alemanes. A día de hoy, la parte más antigua y céntrica de este pueblo se ha convertido en una infinidad de bonitas y coloridas tiendas de todo tipo, sobre todo de antigüedades, ropa, souvenirs, bares y restaurantes, etc.

It's a little town located in the North of Houston, created and developed by the railroad. In the beggining, most of its citizens were from Germany. Nowadays, the old town has become a commercial area with lots of nice and colorful antique shops, clothes, souvenir and gift shops, bars, restaurants, and so on.

En algunas tiendas puedes comprobar el origen alemán del pueblo.

Looking at some of the shops, you can notice the German origin of the town.

Como en todo Texas, en verano hace tanto calor que refrigeran hasta los urinarios.

As in all Texas, it's so hot in summer that they 'climatize' even the restrooms.

KEMAH

Kemah es otro pequeño pueblo en la costa, al sureste de Houston. Es un destino típico para las familias en los fines de semana, y tiene una pequeña feria de atracciones para niños, Kemah Boardwalk. Al estar en la costa, tiene unos cuantos restaurantes especializados en marisco.

Kemah is another small town in the south-east coast of Houston. It's a typical destination for families at the weekends and it has a small amusement park for kids, Kemah Boardwalk. As it is near the sea, it has some seafood restaurants.

Aparte de dicho anteriormente, parece que la vida nocturna en Kemah es bastante interesante, pero de momento no lo puedo confirmar. Lo dejo para la próxima visita, que será pronto.

It also looks like the nightlife in Kemah can be really interesting, but I still can't confirm it. I'll tell you after my next visit, which surely will be soon.
